# What BODMAS is All About?

In our smaller classes, we all have heard of solving problems using BODMAS rule. But many students find it difficult. To understand the law and keep on puzzling.

So here is the simple and clear explanation of the BODMAS rule.

### BODMAS Rule

It is an acronym used for solving a mathematics problem having multiple operations.

The acronym is expelled as follow :

• B- Bracket
• O- Of or order
• D- Divide
• M- Multiply
• S- Subtraction

Sometimes the synonym of BODMAS that is PEMDAS in some instances.

PEMDAS is expelled as follow:

• P-  Parenthesis
• E- Exponents
• D- Division
• M- Multiplication
• S- Subtraction

According to BODMAS rule if an expression contains bracket( ( ) { } [ ] ) then firstly we have to solve the and secondly of or order ( square root and powers) then division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction starting from left to right.

Remember to follow the correct sequence; otherwise, you will end up solving the problem wrong.

Let’s look at an example for a better understanding

Example: 78 – [5 + 3 of (25 – 2 × 10)]

Firstly, we will solve the bracket that is  (25 – 2 x 10) = 25 – 20                                                                                                                                                                     = 5

now solving the next bracket [ 5+3 of 5] =  [ 5 + 15 ]                                                                                                                                                                  = 20

then the last portionn, that is 78 – 20 = 58

so 58 is the answer of the above mentioned problem.
